Mark Warburton may have left Rangers under a cloud, however, there is a role at Rangers with his name written all over it.

As manager, he went from hero to villain with confusion still surrounding his eventual exit to Nottingham Forest.

After a successful season out of the spotlight as a first team coach at West Ham, Mark Warburton is moving on and Rangers could be his next destination.

The former city broker started his football career at the very bottom coaching Under-9s but seized every opportunity that was presented in front of him.

He worked his way up to academy manager at Watford and created a new initiative with Brentford’s owner called the NextGen series.

This connection led to Warburton getting a first-coaching role before earning his chance in the hot seat.

A remarkable rise given his foundations lay elsewhere.

Now though, after playing a role in helping West Ham win their first trophy in 43 years and their first European one in over 50, the former Gers gaffer is looking for a new adventure.

He has spoken since his Ibrox departure about how much he regrets what happened and that he still has an affinity for the club.

With a return to management unlikely given his recent step back, a return to his to roots could see a reunion at Auchenhowie.

Ross Wilson has departed his sporting director role and Craig Mulholland is to leave his position as academy director.

Mark Warburton could do either role for Rangers.

Well connected, forward thinking and driven, the 60-year old could be perfect given his previous experience and success.

That he knows only too well the demands placed on any Rangers employee and the pressures that those on the frontline face is an added bonus.

As a key player in setting up the academy when he arrived at Rangers in 2015, who better to lead its regeneration?
