Rangers’ academy have shown some real progression this year, and that looks set to continue in the future.

That’s because Director of Football Mark Allen has opened up on how it needs continuous funding. This comes from a Q&A hosted on Twitter by the Rangers Youth Development Company.

Allen has mentioned a variety of upgrades that will be made in both the youth academy and first-team affairs in recent months. A new complex at the Hummel Training Centre is on the way, but that appears to be just the start.

Speaking to supporters via Twitter this morning, Allen confirmed the commitment the club has to youth development.

Youth stars given more encouragement

There’s no denying that one of Rangers’ most exciting developments this season has been the emergence of young talent. Serge Atakayi and Dapo Mebude have both made first-team squads this season. The former made an appearance against Motherwell before picking up an injury.

Glenn Middleton is another youngster to come through, but he never started out at Ibrox. Instead, he arrived from Norwich last season before spending some time with the under-20s.

Allen didn’t go in to too many specifics regarding how money at youth level would be invested. Instead, he decided to speak mostly about his long-term plan and the importance of youth progression.

The likes of Andrew Dallas and Stephen Kelly could also soon be making their mark in the first-team. It goes to show the rapid progression the club’s youth academy have had over the last year.

Allen also touched on other topics such as the developments at Ibrox, his favourite aspect of the job, and the signing process.
