Former Rangers striker Marco Negri has sent a message to Rangers captain James Tavernier after a chance encounter in a high street shop.
The Italian stallion was at Ibrox between 1997 and 2001 in what eventually turned out to be an injury strewn spell in Govan.
But Negri has clearly never forgotten the club and he expressed delight at running into the current captain whilst out and about in Glasgow.
Negri’s tweet reads: “Around Glasgow bumped in this LEGEND! Such a pleasure to meet you @James_Tavernier great guy and class player! C’mon GERS”
Marco Negri had run into Tavernier’s in the city centre’s END men’s clothing store on the city’s Ingram Street.
The Italian striker, now 48, was in Glasgow to take part in a hike to the top of Ben Nevis with Michael Mols for the Rangers charity foundation.
Speaking on Twitter, Negri said: “Thanks to everyone who joined us to support @RFC_Charity it was a fantastic day in a beautiful place! Amazing #bennevis @michaelmols14.”
Marco Negri only made 30 league appearances for Rangers but scored an astonishing 32 league goals.
The rampant striker was on fine form back in the late 90s before a mysterious flesh-eating bug sidelined the player and interrupted his career.
But such was Negri’s fondness for his time in Glasgow, he clearly still holds Rangers close to his heart.
So much so the former Perugia forward once said he’d love to return in a coaching capacity one day [Scottish Sun].
