Anwar El Ghazi is being linked to Manchester United after his release from PSV Eindhoven, as Rangers risk a Ryan Kent shaped hole this season.

Whilst the Dutch winger, 28, was never officially mentioned as a target for Rangers, the player’s release from the Eredivisie side had some pointing towards an Ibrox move.

This comes with Rangers yet to replace the influence of Ryan Kent in the transfer window and a Fashion Sakala shaped hole also appearing later in the summer.

Anwar El Ghazi has played at the top level with Ajax, PSV, Lille, Aston Villa, Everton and even the Dutch national team and on a free many believed was worth consideration at Rangers.

But as things have transpired Manchester United have now been linked with a move for Anwar El Ghazi amid uncertainty over Old Trafford wingers Anthony and Jadon Sancho.

The links first appeared in the Daily Mail and have picked up a head of steam as Manchester United appear to weigh up a move for the winger.

Should Rangers steal in on Manchester United target Anwar El Ghazi?

Whether these links are realised are not, perhaps it highlights how high-profile Anwar El Ghazi is and maybe Rangers could be considering a late plunge.

With major doubts surrounding the club’s new-look £13m frontline, and big Ryan Kent and Fashion Sakala-sized holes in the squad, the club could certainly do worse.

Michael Beale is a man under huge pressure at Rangers and it remains to be seen if the board would stump up the wages and agent fees it would take to bring Anwar El Ghazi to Ibrox.

It certainly wouldn’t be cheap but Rangers do look short in attack and are in dire need of some creative inspiration in the final third.

Whether the Dutch-Moroccan is the answer is another question but otherwise it appears Rangers will need to wait until January to plug any holes in their squad.
