Rangers might be taking a 2-0 advantage to Luxembourg next Thursday, but for Steven Gerrard, the message is clear to his players. Be more clinical.
The Rangers boss was speaking to the press after the Gers completely dominated Progres Niederkorn but only managed to score two goals.
The Ibrox side could’ve even conceded themselves after missing a host of chances. As a result, Steven Gerrard was quick to point out the need for his side to be more ruthless going forward.

“The game plan tonight was to try and kill the tie as early as we can. I believe we’ve created more than enough chances to do that,” said Gerrard, as quoted by STV.
“In big moments in the game we haven’t been clinical enough.
“Obviously the penalty springs to mind and we probably had six or seven decent chances on top of that to score more goals.
“As the game goes on we’re chasing that third goal and lose a bit of discipline and shape at the back and we could have been caught out.
“So there’s work to do. But the problem now is Progres’ problem because we’ve got a two-goal advantage and a clean sheet.”
The comments will act as an inspiration to his goal-shy forwards, and with added competition in the background at Ibrox, help keep his players on their toes.
Rangers now have a variety of attacking options currently at the club, whilst the likes of Ryan Kent is still interesting Gerrard and his team.

And whilst the message about being more clinical is certainly clear enough, the underlying one is just as important.
If some players can’t be, then there’s plenty of others who’ll get the chance to prove they can be.
