Kevin Muscat continues to go from strength to strength as a manager as he revels in his latest league title triumph in China.

The former Rangers defender who made 26 appearances for the club and won the Treble has carved out an incredibly successful career as a manager.

Before moving to his current team Shanghai Port, Muscat won league titles in his native Australia and in Japan with Melbourne Victory and Yokohama F. Marinos respectively.

He’s now just added a Chinese top-flight crown to his mantelpiece after a stunning 5-0 victory over Tianjin Jinmen Tiger on Friday.

Kevin Muscat wins Chinese Super League

It’s the fifth league title triumph of Muscat’s managerial career and with that, he became the first Australian boss to win league titles in Australia, Japan & China.

The title was won by a single point over arch-rivals Shanghai Shenhua but goal difference would have been largely in favour of Muscat’s side anyway if the two sides were level on points.

Shanghai Port scored an unbelievable 96 goals on their way to title success, further proving that Muscat’s attacking style of football will bring results.

What Rangers fans would do now to have a coach like Muscat at the Ibrox helm given how catastrophic Philippe Clement’s demise has been of late.

Craig Moore on Kevin Muscat Rangers talks

Muscat was actually pipped to the Rangers job last season by Clement having been interviewed twice by the Govan club’s hierarchy.

The Aussie was manager at Yokohama and clearly saw a return to Rangers as his next coaching step, as backed up by old pal and countryman Craig Moore.

Moore said on The Go Radio Football Show recently that Muscat was in fact gutted to lose the race to replace Michael Beale in 2023.

Moore said: “He had two interviews at the time and he lost out and he was devastated to lose out at the time to Philippe Clement.

“He thought it was a great opportunity for him and it would have been a great job but Kevin now is doing a great job in China and that ship has well and truly sailed.”
