It’s fair to say the Rangers AGM passed without the drama it’s had in years gone by. Whilst there’s still plenty going on behind the scenes, there are things to be positive about at Ibrox.

But one man would’ve strutted out those doors at the SEC Armadillo puffing his chest higher than most. Graeme Murty was subject to an impassioned toast by Rangers Chairman Dave King.

Amidst the confusion and cup horror-shows/fallouts surrounding his departure, you have the give it to him. He stood up to the block when no-one else would, not once, by twice.

Dave King clearly has massive respect for Graeme Murty

The words of Dave King, and the stage on which they were announced, were meant to stir the heart of a man whom the Rangers Chairman clearly feels indebted to. He described Murty as a “true Rangers hero”, also calling him his “man of the year.

King’s toast to Murty in full:

“Finally, I want to thank a man who to my mind is a true Rangers hero. For the second time – and at great personal anguish much of the time – Graeme Murty put the club ahead of himself by taking on the extremely difficult role of interim manager for a prolonged period and under challenging circumstances.

“Graeme, I am extremely grateful for your sacrifice and for your decision to continue to help the youngsters at the Academy despite your disappointment. You are my man of the year.”

It’s a big statement about the man who remains Rangers U20s Manager. Many fans are split on Graeme Murty because of the Kenny Miller/Lee Wallace fall-out.

But it seems that Dave King certainly isn’t.

At this year’s Rangers AGM, he toasted the work of the Rangers manager as questions also came on Wallace’s future.

It now seems that those could also be settled come January.
