Rangers captain James Tavernier might be now getting used to facing the cameras after a disaster; but fans are getting impatient with his “disappointing” responses.

The Ibrox skipper, 31, once again faced the press as the side he leads once again came up short in Scotland and left Rangers fans chewing their fingernails over the campaign.

And in yet another interview, Rangers fans are having nervous flashbacks to the last few seasons when the “disappointed” captain has failed to inspire in the aftermath of domestic disappointment.

“It’s obviously disappointing and unacceptable in our standards as a team and for the club we play for,” said Tavernier.

“We were comfortable throughout the game but as a team like Kilmarnock, if the scoreline is 0-0 they’re obviously waiting for that set-piece chance and we didn’t defend well for that throw-in.

“They go 1-0 up and it’s obviously disappointing that we didn’t create a lot of chances and that we couldn’t be clinical.”

James Tavernier Groundhog Day with Rangers captain’s legacy in balance

It’s all sounding eerily and ominously familiar and it’s little wonder an apathetic Rangers support are beginning to turn.

In fact, there is so much repetition that one cheeky supporter has even made a compilation of all the times our courageous Rangers skipper has sheepishly criticised “disappointing” performances.

Rangers have not been consistently successful enough over James Tavernier’s reign as captain and it’s all coming to a head amid a re-energising revamp which is yet to convince supporters.

Once again suffering the ire of fans who view the right-back as too timid defensively and increasingly ineffective offensively, Tavernier’s Ibrox legacy is on something of a knife edge.

The debate might rage regarding James Tavernier’s legacy as a Rangers legend, the captain having been inducted into the Hall of Fame last season, but it’s the right now which is the Ibrox skipper’s issue.

On the park James Tavernier’s contribution has been immense but also an issue. For the club’s right-back to consistently be our top scorer is a smite on the forward line.

Off it, the skipper’s decision to upload a season review of the last campaign with a new marketing company, a campaign in which Celtic won the treble, also went down like a lead balloon.

It’s not the first time the Rangers skipper has showed a clear and obvious disconnect with the expectations of the support when it comes to the club’s leading player.

The less said about the Hamilton programme notes the better.

One more “disappointing” campaign at Rangers and those fans who’ve always been loyal to the Gers captain amid the criticism might also turn on James Tavernier.

For us, this is a make or break season for the skipper who, like so many others in this squad, will have no right to remain at Ibrox beyond this season if they cannot deliver the success which fans crave.
