Local police publicly welcome Rangers to Vienna

Rangers fans have been publicly welcomed to Vienna by the local Police as over 10,000 are set to descend on the city between today and tomorrow.

The Vienna Police Department took to their official Twitter account to welcome the Bears. It was a nice touch and has helped to create a positive atmosphere about the Glasgow club’s visit.

More than that, they also invited Rangers fans to indulge in the many international pubs all over the city. It’s a very warm welcome to the Austrian capital. It probably makes up for the fact it’s -1 right now.

The POLIZEI WIEN Twitter account will act as a signpost for fans and provide them with any important information.

The local Police aren’t the only people to welcome Rangers to town either. Rapid Vienna themselves have gone out of their way to ensure all Rangers fans will be situated together in the stadium. That includes supporters who have tickets for the home end.

The relaxed and informal attitude and approach has been refreshing. The number of fans Rangers are taking is over 10k, and it could so easily be called as a complex policing situation.

Instead, the City has embraced the influx of Rangers fans and it should be a great occasion.

The game kicks off at 18:55 local time in Vienna tomorrow. That’s 17:55 here.
