Livingston captain Marvin Bartley makes bold Rangers Celtic claim

Livingston defender Marvin Bartley conceded defeat to Rangers as they swept the Lions away 2-0 at the Tony Macaroni.

The Livi captain admitted that the Ibrox side were simply too good in West Lothian as Livingston struggled to deal with Rangers’ high tempo pressing, slick passing and sweeping movement.

But if giving Rangers the plaudits for the win wasn’t enough, Bartley reckons the Gers are the best side Livi have faced at home all season long, and that means better than Celtic.

“We are obviously going to be disappointed when we’re losing games,” said Bartley [Scottish Sun].

“But I think there are times when you just have to hold your hands up and say the better team won.

“In terms of the teams we’ve played at home, they’re definitely the best side we’ve faced so far this season.

“We were playing against a very good Rangers team.

“I thought they were superb. As a player, you obviously don’t want to be coming off the pitch and be saying that about the opposition.

“But it was a hard game for us. Their rotation was very good and you have to say that the best team won on the day.

“I’ve played at this level for a few years now — and I’d have to say that’s the best Rangers team and performance I’ve come up against.”

Marvin Bartley played for Hibernian last season.

Bartley’s comments obviously stoke a bit of a fire between the Old Firm, with Celtic of course falling to a 2-0 defeat at Livi earlier in the season.

With both sides neck-and-neck in the league, every point and goal is a prisoner with Rangers and Celtic both edging out wins domestically this weekend.

But according to Marvin Bartley, Rangers have been the superior side this season when it comes to the Old Firm duopoly.
