Some Liverpool fans have been suggesting Rangers boss Steven Gerrard should return to the Anfield club as the U23s development squad manager.

Steven Gerrard was the Liverpool U18s manager before he took over at Ibrox and one of the club’s greatest ever captains.

As a result, the English Premier League side’s supporters have been following the fallout of this Rangers side’s 2020 collapse very closely.

Many believe that Gerrard is destined for the Liverpool manager’s job but there’s little doubt he’s not off to the best start in that regard with Rangers.

Gerrard and his team have struggled to get to grips with the determined, hard-working nature of Scottish football, now dropping points in five league matches since the turn of 2020.

Three of those have been defeats.

Despite his success in the Europa League Steven Gerrard hasn’t done enough domestically to chip away at Celtic’s dominance.

Rangers are now effectively out of the running for all three domestic prizes, losing to Celtic in the League Cup Final, buckling under the pressure in the league and downing tools in the Scottish Cup.

No wonder there are plenty of angry Rangers fans out there questioning the Scouser.

And now, some Liverpool fans are genuinely suggesting their former captain returns to replace U23s manager Neil Critchley, who moved to Blackpool as an escape from Ibrox.
