Rangers loanee Lewis Mayo continues to impress on loan with Partick Thistle as the Ibrox club’s own defensive woes continue this season.
The 21-year-old centre-half is on loan at the Championship club and was once again a key performer as the Jags kept a clean sheet and earned an important 1-0 victory away to league leaders Kilmarnock.

The result has hauled the Firhill side into the promotion hunt and Thistle’s recent good form is in no small part down to the performances of Ibrox Academy youngster Mayo.
Ian McCall’s side have now conceded only once in six league matches with Mayo very much the foundation of the club’s recent defensive success.
The top end of the pitch is where Partick have come up short recently but against the Ayrshire side they managed to get themselves in front with an inspired Mayo helping them to three points by shutting Killie out.
Former Rangers kid Zak Rudden got the goal for Thistle and whilst the striker’s performance impressed, fans will be more intrigued to hear about the situation involving Mayo.
Rangers kid Lewis Mayo continues to impress with Partick Thistle
Rangers have now gone behind in 10 matches this campaign to date and the club’s error-strewn defending has been the subject of much scrutiny all season long.
Lewis Mayo is scheduled to return to Ibrox in January and given his status as an established Scotland U21 international, he presents an interesting option for the Ibrox club.

It’s certainly a sizeable step-up from Firhill to Ibrox but when it comes to Mayo’s Rangers career it very much feels like it could be now or never with his contract running down.
His current deal is up at the end of the campaign and with the defender due back at Rangers in a matter of months, could the youngster be a cost-effective option to bolster the defence this winter?
A leader with ambitions beyond the level he currently finds himself, perhaps the answer to padding out Rangers’ defence is right under the club’s nose.
Meanwhile, another Ibrox star currently on loan at the Jags is yet to start a match at Firhill despite joining the club over two months ago.
