Rangers fans have not been shy in taking aim at their lacklustre players amid a record-breaking run of abysmal home form.

Rangers have lost five home games in a row for the first time in the club’s history whilst the Gers’ leaky defence has matched a six-game run of conceding two or more goals not seen since 1894.

Cyriel Dessers has taken it in the neck plenty in recent weeks and the Nigerian international striker once again fluffed his lines in Rangers’ 2-0 defeat against Hibs.

Barry Ferguson was criticised for sticking Hamza Igamane out left against the Edinburgh side too, with an eagerness to accommodate both forwards dimming the Moroccan’s star.

But it’s the other striker in the Rangers squad who is turning heads on social media, with Rangers fans clamouring for Danilo to be given his chance in Royal Blue.

Rangers fans send Danilo birthday wish to Barry Ferguson

Rangers paid Feyenoord £6m to sign Danilo in the summer of 2023 but injuries have decimated the Brazilian’s first 18 months or so in Glasgow.

Now back in the Rangers squad, chances have been hard to come by for the former Ajax hitman, Danilo lashing out in frustration after being recalled to the bench v Fenerbahce.

Now, Rangers have wished the striker happy birthday with Danilo turning 26-years-old on April 7th 2025.

But the post has been inundated with Rangers supporters pleading with the club to give the striker a chance amid criticism of other options in the team.

One fan joked that Danilo has ‘more birthdays than appearances’ although that is not strictly true, with Danilo playing 42 times in a Rangers jersey.

Another claims that Danilo has ‘more happy birthday posts than starts’ and whilst we’re not sure about posts, the striker has made only 18 starts for the Ibrox side.

Another echoed the feelings of plenty of fans by urging Barry Ferguson to just ‘play him’ rather than watch the expensive hitman prop up the bench.

Twitter use @PenaCartel hit the nail on the head with his reply to the Rangers post.

Barry Ferguson promises ‘series of changes’ after Hibs defeat

The reaction to Danilo comes after Barry Ferguson promised to ring the changes following Rangers’ abysmal defeat to Hibs at Ibrox.

The interim Rangers manager was furious come the full-time whistle with Ferguson admitting he was ‘really angry’ with the performance at Ibrox.

Speaking at full-time, Ferguson insisted there will be ‘big changes’ ahead of the visit of Athletic Bilbao with a spotlight shining on the number nine berth in particular.

”There’ll be a series of changes on Thursday night,” Ferguson promised at full-time. “And I can say that right now.

“You’re playing with Glasgow Rangers. You can’t get up for games of football then… You shouldn’t be playing football.

“Especially here, you come into a place like this. Brilliant stadium and supporters. Packed to the rafters. Getting behind you. And we put a performance on like that. As you can probably see or hear, I’m fuming.”
