Leigh Griffiths has taken a pop at Rangers

Leigh Griffiths has decided to take a real pop at Rangers ahead of the Old Firm game at the end of the month,

The Celtic forward has always been one to cause some trouble in these fixtures. His tying of scarves to goalposts and insistence on winding up Rangers supporters has led to some ugly scenes during the game.

The bitterness between both Old Firm clubs has now reached its peak this season. The two sides just can’t stand each other, with Griffiths central to this with his goading post-match of the Rangers support.

The Celtic star loves a wind-up, and has been having a real pop at Rangers in the media. Touching on his scarves to goalpost routine, Griffiths said the following:

“I got into bother at Linfield (in the Champions League qualifiers). Then unfortunately for me they had two stewards on the posts (at Ibrox).

“It’s probably the closest I’ve been marked at Ibrox. It was very difficult to put another one there. But listen, it’s a bit of banter at the end of the day.

“Guys have short memories. I read somewhere that Rangers did the huddle at Celtic Park in 1999. Celtic fans had to endure that so it gets us a little bit of payback.”

Team-talk for Rangers has been provided

If Rangers need any more motivation for the 29th, then Griffiths has surely provided them with it. The Scotland international is looking to goad with these comments as much as he does with his actions on the pitch.

There’s no denying the quality of the Parkhead man, but he’s unlikely to even start the game ahead of Odsonne Edouard. Why he feels the need to come out and wind others up is beyond most.

Whilst Griffiths may deem it’s just banter, and it’s fair game to bring up Rangers’ huddle at Parkhead, these actions incite. Added to that, clubs have been warned about their actions towards opposition fans regarding incitement by the police no less. Griffiths never seems to want to know.

Many saw the reaction of the Linfield supporters when Griffiths tried to goad them with his scarf last year. It nearly cause a riot, but he proceeded to do it anyway as it was just a bit of “banter”.

Griffiths’ love for winding up Rangers fans has to be motivational in terms of Rangers’ team-talk. The Celtic man is openly admitting that he’s going to keep doing it. Rangers, therefore, have to make sure that isn’t the case.
