Legendary Barcelona man tips Rangers as "good fit" for "incredible" star

Legendary former Barcelona midfielder and World Cup winning Spanish international Xavi has backed Jack Wilshere for a move to Rangers.

The iconic midfield maestro is widely regarded as one of the finest playmakers to play the game and still recalls a special Wilshere performance for Arsenal against Barcelona in 2011.

Only a teenager, Wilshere showed his potential by rubbing shoulders with the likes of Xavi and Iniesta in a Champions League last 16 tie nine years ago.

Back then Xavi tipped the midfielder for greatness and the Al Sadd manger has now described Rangers as a “very good fit” for Wilshere as he looks to resurrect his career.

Should the player make the move, Xavi is also convinced the midfielder would be the best player in Scotland.

“I have had a lot of respect for Jack, for many years,” said Xavi [Daily Record].

“He played an incredible game against Barcelona (in 2011) and after that I predicted he would go on to be one of the best midfield players in the world and the future of English football.

“That is a prediction that I am sure would have come true if it were not for some horrible injuries.

“Rangers could be a very good fit for him. The pace in Scotland is not as fast as England and it would give him more time on the ball. That is where he excels, his vision and passing is incredible.

“They are a big club with a young coach who knows what it takes to win at the very highest level.

“There is also the chance of him having the chance to play Champions League football again.

“That is where every player wants to be and at Rangers he will be given the opportunity to fight to play in it.

“Gerrard will be a big fan of his for sure. They share a lot of similar qualities.

“It would be a risk because of his injuries but if Rangers could manage to keep him fit and without injury, he would be the best player in Scotland.”

Rangers have been linked with a move for Wilshere, 28, ever since the player negotiated a release from his contract at Premier League West Ham United.

A report from The 4th Official claims that Rangers’ interest in the player is “substantial” with Wilshere unable to sign for a Premier League side after signing a “no-compete clause” with West Ham.

Wilshere himself has spoken about his future to talkSPORT and suggested he was leaning towards “something a little bit different” and will decide his future in the coming weeks.
