Lee Wallace’s revival at Rangers could be a premature one, with Bristol City reportedly interested in his services.
The Scottish Sun believe that a move to the Championship could be on the cards for Wallace.
The left-back was given an unexpected return to the Rangers squad earlier this month. He came on in the first-half against St Johnstone, but didn’t feature in any of the subsequent matches against Hibernian or Celtic.
Steven Gerrard has always been non-committal over the future of Wallace. He’s said in the past that the former Hearts defenders will always remain part of his plans so long as he remains at the club. This hasn’t been backed up by team selections, however.
Wallace has now only featured twice at Ibrox this season. His other appearance was a short cameo against Motherwell at Fir Park.
The signings of both Borna Barisic and Jon Flanagan have pushed him down the pecking order. Andy Halliday’s emergence as a reliable left-back also hasn’t helped matters for the former Gers captain.
Bristol could hand Lee Wallace a chance
And it looks as though Bristol look set to offer him a chance to revive his career.
You have to imagine this is something that Rangers will be interested in. It’s always felt as though the club have been waiting for a team such as Bristol to take Wallace off their hands.
The left-back has been a fantastic servant to the club, but his time has come to move on. Wallace has of course been part of the club’s incredible journey to get back into the Premiership in Scotland.
Unfortunately, however, things have never been the same after his spat with Graeme Murty last season. The club have since eased him back into first-team training and general affairs.
Outside of that, however, there’s been no real return for him to the first-team.
A formal offer has yet to have been made from any side for Wallace. According to the Sun, however, he’s high on Gary Johnson’s list of targets.
