Lawrence Shankland has the golden touch at the moment.

Everything the Ayr United strike touches seems to go right and last night was no different. The 23 year old scored four as Ayr United thrashed Dundee United 5-0.

And if Shankland wanted to endear himself any more to the Rangers faithful, there are few better teams to consign to such a defeat.

Rangers and Dundee United aren’t exactly best pals. There have been numerous incidents over the years from ticket boycotts to ripping off Rangers fans after match postponements.

But it is for revelling in Rangers demise in 2012 that fans hold most contempt. Their Chairman and Board were very outspoken about Rangers reapplying for membership to the league and fans view still view it as harsh and aggressive.

A bluenose himself, I’m sure Shankland would’ve enjoyed putting them to the sword.

Is Lawrence Shankland on Rangers radar?

Lawrence Shankland has now scored 26 goals in 23 games. I don’t care if that’s in the Scottish Championship – that’s some return.

It looks likely Shankland will move on from Ayr United, probably in the Summer.

But should his next destination be Rangers? Why not? He must be on the club’s radar.

He’s banging them in and loves the club. He is clearly a determined young man and has battled back from numerous career setbacks and struggling to make the grade at Aberdeen.

Now he’s firing the Honest Men to the top league in Scotland. And I’ve no doubt he could do a job at the top team here too.

I say give him a chance at Ibrox.
