When the interest in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos from Ligue 1 Lille reportedly cooled this week, you’d be forgiven for thinking the forward had turned back from the £20m Ibrox exit door.
The talented Colombian forward also reiterated his commitment to the cause at Ibrox and whilst Lille president Gerard Lopez admitted they were still “watching”, the focus has switched back to Rangers.
But after Morelos once again opened up on his future, this time to ESPN’s Nexo show, it’s a timely reminder that there is a very real possibility of the striker leaving this season.
With extended transfer windows across Europe clubs can bide their time before making a move and should Morelos keep up his good form and someone meet Rangers’ asking price, a move could very much still materialise.
“We are waiting for everything,” Morelos told ESPN’s Nexo show, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“I can’t say if I’m leaving or not, so far I’m a Rangers player and I’m focused on Rangers.
“If there is an opportunity to move to another league, I will analyse it.”
Morelos deserves credit for reaffirming his commitment to Rangers amid the interest with the Gers being said to have turned down a £16.25m bid for the striker [Daily Mail].
The Colombian international could’ve easily turned on the club and tried to force through a move but the forward respects that Rangers have an asking price, believed to be around £20m.
Any less in the current climate would be undervaluing the forward who netted 29 goals before the turn of the year last season.
But whilst Morelos remains committed to Rangers as long as he is here, his comments would suggest he is very much open to the possibility of a move should that £20m figure be met.
