Kyle Lafferty’s off-field antics haven’t quite gone away as much as everyone would’ve hoped.
The Rangers forward continues to be in the papers for the wrong reasons. His latest incident involved certain images being sent to a woman behind his partner’s back. Many will point to Lafferty being a grown man who can make his own decisions.
What’s concerning, however, is the fact that the big striker is a role-model whilst at Rangers yet still does these actions. He needs to stop getting involved in these games off-field if he’s to be the superstar his footballing abilities show he can be.
The big striker has yet to make a serious impact at Rangers, and these occurrences don’t help. Lafferty continues to sit out big games behind Alfredo Morelos, and it’s difficult to know for sure that he’s concentrated on his football.
The towering forward now goes on international duty with Northern Ireland. That follows yet another incident between Lafferty and the Northern Ireland FA off the field.
A few bad judgments
The striker called up his national side far too late to inform them he wouldn’t be turning up at the last squad due to injury. The Northern Irish FA were fuming at the decision. So much so that they exercised a rule that halted Lafferty playing in a match for Rangers.
Lafferty needs to start acting like the man he should’ve turned into by now. The days of immature behaviour and getting involved in matters he shouldn’t should be behind him. At 31-years of age, Lafferty should now be acting a tad more maturely off the pitch.
With just four goals in 10 appearances at Ibrox, the striker isn’t exactly in great form. Rangers coach Michael Beale revealed he wants to strike up a relationship between Lafferty and Morelos. The former, however, needs to be in the right frame of mind for that to work.
Performances so far have been unconvincing. When you combine that with immature behaviour off the pitch, the end results aren’t usually great.
Lafferty needs to do himself and his team-mates a favour and grow up a bit. If he can get his head back in the game, Rangers have an extremely valuable forward on their hands.
