Kris Boyd says one Rangers player did something ‘magnificent’ in Ross County win

Kris Boyd was thrilled with the contribution of Cyriel Dessers during Rangers’ 3-1 win over Scottish Premiership strugglers Ross County with the striker scoring a ‘magnificent header’.

If any game summed up the Nigeria international’s time at Ibrox so far, it was this.

Cyriel Dessers hit the post, he hit the goalkeeper, he even hit a defender on the line. It’s often been a case of feast or famine during the striker’s Rangers career and the midweek clash with Ross County at Ibrox highlighted both the good and the bad of a striker who continues to veer wildly from the prolific to the profligate.

Dessers scored twice on the night, opening the scoring with wonderfully taken effort before putting his head where it hurt to guide home a typically wicked James Tavernier delivery from out wide. And while the £4.5 million summer signing from Cremonese could and probably should have walked home with the match ball under his arm, Boyd was still pleased to see Dessers maintain his impressive return in the final third.

Cyriel Dessers hits brace in Rangers win

“It’s a magnificent header,” Boyd told Sky Sports after the former Feyenoord man scored for the seventh time since mid-December.

“It is a great ball in from Tavernier. And the relief in his face tells you, he is absolutely delighted with that. It is his second of the game, (but) he should have easily had about four or five.”

Dessers has now reached double figures in the Scottish Premiership, and 14 in all competitions.

“The team and me are in a good place,” smiles the Belgium-born frontman, a man who’s confidence has been transformed since Philippe Clement replaced Mick Beale in the Ibrox dugout (BBC Sport).

“Everyone is scoring and contributing and you also feel the atmosphere, especially in the last games. It’s becoming a little extra compared to the games before.

“We, as players, feel that as well. That’s really positive. A huge thing which can be a boost for the next 13 games in the league. Hopefully that can make the difference. It’s a nice feeling and I think there is a really positive vibe in the stadium and the training ground.

“We’re in a good place and want to keep this going. Not just in the locker room but with the fans and we are on a good way with that.”

Philippe Clement’s side go joint-top

Rangers moved level on points with Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the Premiership table with that Ross County victory, although John Souttar’s late clincher was not enough to lift Clement’s side into top spot on goal difference.
