Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has taken to Instagram to goad Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers following their devastating defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle.
The Parkhead side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat in Gorgie which ultimately let Rangers off the hook following Motherwell’s shock 2-1 victory at Ibrox.
The result ensures Rangers maintain a two point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership on a controversial afternoon in Edinburgh.
Never one for missing an opportunity to goad our Old Firm rivals, Kris Boyd has taken to Instagram to goad Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers for post-match comments about VAR.
Kris Boyd lands VAR dig on Brendan Rodgers
The Rangers striker shared an image of the VAR team working behind the scenes at a Scottish Premiership match with the caption “now it’s your fault”.
The image is in reference to post-match comments made by Brendan Rodgers surrounding a number of controversial decisions in the match which went against Celtic.
Whilst the Parkhead manager made no mention of a soft penalty awarded to his side in the early stages of the game – which Adam Idah missed – Rodgers fumed at a red card handed to Korean winger Yang and a handball penalty given against Tomoki Iwata.
“My feeling is the game was decided by the officials,” said Rodgers. “On the field and outside of the field.
”Those two decisions really left us with an uphill task in the game. It was a poor day for the officials.
“VAR is not the problem here, it’s competence. I think the first one is a great example of the game being refereed outside of the pitch. That today was awful officiating in what was a big game for us.”
Citation incoming, Brendan?
Rangers hero twists Hearts knife into Celtic
It’s not the first time Kris Boyd has responded to the claims of the Celtic manager either, with the ex-Rangers striker calling out comments made about John Beaton.
Whilst the ultimate decision rests with on-field referee Don Robertson, Rodgers insisted on focusing on VAR official John Beaton, who has been subject to regular conspiracy theories from Celtic fans.
Speaking to the Sky Sports panel after the match, Kris Boyd called the comments and the Celtic manager out.
“I think it’s interesting that Brendan Rodgers calls out John Beaton,” said Kris Boyd. “And by the way, Brendan Rodgers calls out the two Hearts incidents, what about his own team’s penalty?
“If Idah scores the penalty it probably doesn’t lead to that, but we’ll not speak about that? The conspiracy theorists are back out tonight.”

Scottish Premiership duties are now put on hold for two weeks with Rangers facing a Europa League double header v Benfica either side of a Scottish Cup trip to Hibs.
When league duties do resume, Rangers will travel to face Dundee at Dens Park after Celtic host St Johnstone at Parkhead.
