Lawrence Shankland and Derek McInnes will be returning to their former club Hearts when Rangers play them next season.
The Jambos ended the 2025/26 season coming within touching distance of the Scottish Premiership title.
However, a final-day defeat to Celtic meant that McInnes and Shankland ended the campaign without winning the league.
If Lewis Ferguson joins post the World Cup, who should Derek McInnes name the Rangers captain?
This is assuming Nicolas Raskin leaves Rangers…
Hostile reception at Hearts expected for Derek McInnes and Lawrence Shankland
Kris Boyd expects McInnes and Shankland to be booed when they visit Tynecastle donning Rangers colours next season.
The former Gers striker had defended McInnes’ decision to move to Ibrox as he believes Hearts would not necessarily have stuck with him following a bad start to the upcoming season.
Boyd believes that the Scotsman saw this as the opportunity to manage a bigger club and take the step up in his career, and decided to do it.
However, he does not see this as making him immune to receiving a hostile reception at the club he nearly won the Scottish Premiership title with in May.
How many league goals will Shankland score for Rangers next season?
He could fire Rangers to a domestic treble!
He told Scottish Sun Sport: “There’s no loyalty in football, is there?
“Derek will look at it from his point of view as well: ‘If I don’t start the season well next year, you would have probably fired me anyway. So I get an opportunity to move on.’ That’s what happens.
“The Hearts fans won’t be happy, but you have to get over it.
“It’s the same with Shankland as well.
“As soon as they go back to Tynecastle next season, they will be booed.”
What will McInnes need to do in order to win over the Rangers fans
The Gers supporters have turned on all their managers following Steven Gerrard, so McInnes has an interesting task on his hands.
Being a former player, he will be allowed some leeway, but he will need to show by November or December that he has a hold of this team and they are in a good position to challenge and potentially win the league.
A good run in Europe will also help him, and if he can navigate the tricky run, including away games against Celtic and Hearts, potentially with four or six points from the two games, he will be lauded by the Ibrox faithful.
His style of football may not be the easiest on the eye, but if he succeeds in getting the results, few will be complaining.
