Kris Boyd has aimed further criticism at Allan McGregor, as quoted by the Scotsman.
The Rangers keeper has been on the receiving end of plenty in the wake of an incident in Sunday’s win over Hibernian.
With the game seemingly meandering towards a Rangers win, McGregor put the points in jeopardy with ludicrous kick out at Marc McNulty.
The 37-year-old will now miss the final two games of the season, including Sunday’s Old Firm.
Alfredo Morelos has a worse disciplinary record this season, but to an extent, he can plead naivety.
“But there isn’t any excuse for Allan McGregor,” argued Boyd, as quoted by
“There have been too many incidents. I look at the way he is roaring, so angry at people. That was never him. There must be a pressure somewhere within Allan that needs to be vented somewhere else and needs to be sorted.”
“He’s screaming at defenders, coming charging out of his goal to get involved in incidents that have nothing to do with him and then there are the incidents he has been involved in – the Kris Ajer one, the one at Motherwell, the one at Aberdeen.
Verdict
Boyd hasn’t been shy in sticking the boot into his old club this season.
However, in this instance, it’s hard to disagree. McGregor has been outstanding between the sticks since his summer return. That save from Florian Kamberi’s close-range effort on Sunday showed the level he’s at.
Yet, these incidents are cropping up all too often.
It’s always good to play with an edge, but there’s a nastiness to his play this season that hasn’t been evident previously.
McGregor simply has to improve his temperament, and now he’ll have until next season to think about it.
