Say what you want about former Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot, but he doesn’t half know how to rile opposition fans up.
A likeable character during his days at Ibrox, he recently drew the ire of Rangers fans for his shoddy on-pitch behaviour whilst at Kilmarnock.
But latest comments concerning his return to the club where it all started for the 35-year-old – St. Mirren – suggest it’s nothing we should take personally.
“I had a great relationship with the [St. Mirren] fans when I was here the first time,” said Broadfoot, as quoted by the Herald.
“My mum and dad were saying the other day that it would be good for me to go back to St Mirren as they loved it there before.
“There was a bit of banter when I came back from Rangers. That happens when people move on. But the fans know I will give 100 per cent for this club. When they see what I do on the pitch they can relate to that. They know I’ll do everything for the club.”
Broadfoot kissed the Rangers during his first visit back to Love Street after signing for the Gers in 2008.
The big defender loves the controversy and once he moved on from Ibrox as soon as he was back he was also out winding up the Gers fans.
His cringeworthy dive back in October 2017 saw Ryan Jack red-carded, whilst the centre-half also raked his studs down Alfredo Morelos’ heel last season.
But this timely reminder of him doing it to the club where he first earned his name shows that for Kirk Broadfoot it isn’t really about who he’s playing, it’s about who he’s playing with.
Broadfoot has signed a two-year deal with St. Mirren after being released by Kilmarnock at the end of the transfer window.
