Rangers have appointed Kilmarnock legend James Fowler as the club’s new Head of Academy Scouting – with the news being announced on LinkedIn.
Whilst Rangers are yet to make an official announcement over the appointment of James Fowler, who brings a wealth of experience to the role, the man himself has updated his LinkedIn profile.
With Fowler now including his title of Head of Academy Scouting & Recruitment at Ibrox, it looks like the club have got the man they believe can help them unearth the best young talent in Scotland.
James Fowler joins Rangers staff
Rangers fans will best remember James Fowler from his time with Kilmarnock where the former defensive midfielder turned full-back spent 14 years as a player.
Making over 400 appearances for the Rugby Park club, the former Scotland youth cap is considered a legend in Ayrshire with substantial standing in the Scottish game.
James Fowler joins Rangers around 18 months on from when he left a role as the Head of Football Operations at Kilmarnock.
Credited with bringing Derek McInnes to the club, Fowler also spent time as the manager of Queen of the South whilst he was Jack Ross’s assistant at St Mirren and Sunderland.
The former Killie hero was said to have been the frontrunner for the role, which has been newly established under the new Head of Academy, Zurab Amirian.
Kilmarnock legend joins revamped Academy
The appointment comes at an interesting time for the Rangers Academy, which is undergoing something of an overhaul.
James Fowler will join a new look Academy set up at Rangers, which is headed by young Belgian youth football visionary Zeb Jacobs.

Already rising to the role of Academy Director, Jacobs has a vision of making the Ibrox club a world leader in producing top talent.
As part of that the onus now on Fowler to identify and then convince young players to make the switch to Rangers and everyone attached to the club will be wishing him all the best in his new role.
