The former international manager of a key Rangers first-teamer is being linked to the vacant manager’s role at Celtic Park.
Rangers star Steven Davis was the captain of Northern Irish boss Michael O’Neill’s Ulster side which famously made the Euros in 2016.
The now Stoke City boss is the latest name to be linked to Parkhead as speculation continues to persist over who will now try to halt Rangers under Steven Gerrard [90min].
According to that apparently exclusive report, this will be the second time the Parkhead club has approached O’Neill with Dermot Desmond having previously spoken to the 51-year-old prior to hiring Brendan Rodgers.
Davis isn’t the only player currently contracted to Rangers who has worked under O’Neill either, with pacey winger Jordan Jones given his Northern Irish debut by the Ulster manager.
It would certainly interesting to see Steven Davis pit himself against O’Neill next season – should the 36-year-old be awarded a new deal – with Davo previously lauding his old boss.
“I think he’s got to be up there with the best managers we’ve had,” said Davis [Glasgow Times].
“For me personally I can’t speak highly enough of him for what he’s done for me and my international career and the whole country.”
O’Neill isn’t the only name being linked to the Celtic hot seat and there’s been a pretty remarkable level of delusion regarding who our rivals could sign as their top man.
One such link – who has a close personal relationship with Steven Gerrard – is amongst the most laughable of the bunch.
