An important Rangers player has been snapped back in training as he prepares to return to action against Lyon.
The Gers are taking on OL in a Europa League Group A fixture on Thursday night, with Steven Gerrard aiming for a third consecutive opening matchday victory in the competition.
While there was bad news regarding Filip Helander, who has been ruled out until December after being stretchered off at St Johnstone on Saturday, the manager provided a positive update on fellow centre-back Connor Goldson during Wednesday afternoon’s press conference.
The Light Blues vice-captain missed the Saints clash as he was self-isolating, but he’s available to face the French giants.
“Connor Goldson comes back and is available for tomorrow, I am confident we have cover and will manage despite being disappointed Filip is missing,” said Gerrard [Rangers FC Twitter].
Goldson has been a near ever-present in defence since signing from Brighton in the summer of 2018 and his timely return to action ensures that Calvin Bassey won’t be required to fill in at centre-back.
Much to the delight of supporters, a few hours after the initial update, Rangers tweeted an image of Goldson hard at work at Auchenhowie.

Leon Balogun is likely to partner Goldson against OL, with Jack Simpson ineligible after being left out of the Europa League squad.
It’s a defensive pairing that helped to secure a host of clean sheets last season, but one that struggled in the Gers’ Champions League QR3 defeat to Malmo at Ibrox last month.
