Kenny Miller fears £5m ace will want to leave Rangers this summer

Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller fears Bayern Munich loanee Malik Tillman will opt against staying at Ibrox before returning to the Bundesliga.

Rangers’ recruitment may have left a lot to be desired in recent seasons – far more misses than hits – but Tillman is one of those who can probably be considered an unquestionable success.

A tally of 12 goals and five assists in all competitions doesn’t even tell the full story of his impact. The USA international is one of the most naturally talented footballers to wear the deep blue shirt since Rangers returned to the Premiership stage in 2016, while his crucial goals en route to Champions League qualification will always be remembered fondly by the Ibrox faithful.

Rangers can turn Tillman’s loan deal into a permanent transfer for around £6 million, per The Times. A fee a little on the hefty side for a club facing up to an extensive summer overhaul; additions also required in goal, up top, out wide and in central midfield.

Miller, meanwhile, wonders if Tillman would be up for a second season in Scotland. Has he already outgrown a relatively small pond?

Will Bayern Munich loanee Malik Tillman leave Rangers?

“I still think there is a lot to prove. It’s not just about ability, it’s about the transfer fee. And for me there is another thing; I am not sure the boy maybe wants to stay. I don’t know if he will fancy Scottish football,” Miller tells Go Football Radio.

“The novelty of representing Celtic and Rangers wears off for some players. It’s not just all the glamour of Champions League when representing Celtic and Rangers.

“(Tillman could say) ‘I am a Bayern Munich player, could I go back and impact somebody in the Bundesliga?’

“I am still undecided. We don’t see him every day and we don’t know what relationship he has with Michael Beale. That will play a big factor as well.”

20-year-old Tillman is unlikely to force his way into the Bayern Munich first-team any time soon. But one suspects there will be no shortage of rival Bundesliga clubs willing to take a punt on a player with a very bright future.
