The Scottish Sun reports that Rangers will launch a £5 million move for Kemar Roofe if they decide to sell Alfredo Morelos this summer.
Furthermore, former Leeds player Noel Whelan claims the player’s head has ‘already been turned’ by a big contract offer from the Gers [Football Insider].
Yet, that hasn’t stopped the 26-year-old from featuring in pre-season for Leeds.
He played over an hour of their 5-0 victory over York City at Bootham Crescent on Wednesday afternoon.
He also netted the Whites’ second of the game, converting Jack Harrison’s cross in the 22nd minute.
It’s unlikely that if Roofe was banging on the door to get out of Elland Road, Marcelo Bielsa would be starting him in friendly fixtures.
However, perhaps because Morelos remains a Ger, there’s been no contact made with the Leeds forward just yet.
The Englishman has 12-months remaining on his current deal [Transfermarkt], and so as things stand, he would be available for free next summer.
It’s strange that Leeds have allowed to get themselves into this position, considering how vital he was to their third-place finish in last season’s Championship. Roofe notched just under a goal every other game, with 15 in 33 league appearances [Transfermarkt].
Given that both Kyle Lafferty and Ryan Hardie look to be on their way out of the club, Rangers will likely need to add at least one new striker before the end of the summer, even if Morelos stays put.
