Juan Alegria accuses Rangers of being ‘very disrespectful’ amid Ibrox exit

Former Rangers striker Juan Alegria has criticised the Gers as ‘very disrespectful’ after his time at Ibrox came to an end.

Few saw Finland as a market for Rangers to dip into – but the Gers seemed to have a type.

Rangers pounced to sign Alfredo Morelos from HJK Helsinki after seeing the Colombian hitman rack up the goals in Finland.

Whilst Morelos has disappointed towards the end of his time at Rangers, the move has largely been a success.

Rangers tried the same again in 2021 after seeing Alegria show potential with FC Honka.

The hope was that Alegria – another Colombian striker – would emulate Morelos and become a star after trading Finland for Glasgow.

Sadly, after loans at Partick Thistle and Falkirk, Rangers decided to allow Alegria to head back to Finland and rejoin Honka.

Still only 20, Alegria was never given a chance in the Rangers first team and will no doubt be desperate to prove the Gers wrong for letting him go.

Juan Alegria takes a shot at Rangers

Alegria hasn’t taken his Rangers exit quietly though and has now offered a stinging verdict on his time with the club.

As quoted by the Daily Record, Alegria has accused Rangers of being ‘very disrespectful’ to him.

Alegria claims he had high expectations when a move to Ibrox materialised but Rangers never had a plan for him.

The striker suggests that he had no idea how things worked inside Rangers and believes he should have been given more information.

Alegria was baffled as to why he was put in the B team having been playing first-team action in Finland.

Circumstances after his Falkirk loan really angered Alegria and he claims some people inside Rangers don’t even deserve a name having made him feel like he wasn’t part of the club.

Alegria seems happy to just be away from Rangers and these comments are something for the Gers to think about when they recruit young players.

“When Rangers tried to sign me I had high expectations. When you look at the situation or management from inside it is very tough and something I never knew about,” said Alegria. “I never felt as if Rangers had a plan for Juan and that cost time. I learned from the situation and it made me stronger as a person. I don’t regret the move to Rangers but if I had the option to join again I would like to be advised on how everything works inside the club before moving.”

“I never knew what was happening from the start and there was no plan. They never told me anything about the situation and why I didn’t get the opportunity. When I joined Rangers I was playing first-team football in Finland and I was put into the B team – I thought I did well.”

“The first time I asked Rangers if there was a possibility to go on loan. The second time they had an offer from Falkirk. When I came back from Falkirk, Rangers were very disrespectful. They never told me anything clear about the situation. Some people at Rangers made me feel as if I was never a part of the club and acted as if the move never happened. But these people don’t deserve a name,” he added.
