‘Joy to watch’ – Rangers star man vs Olympiacos named as ‘infectious energy’ puts him ahead of Nicolas Raskin

It could have been more but a point away to Olympiacos is still a good result.

The Conference League holders were not at their best in Greece and Rangers could have been a goal or two ahead at half-time.

The hosts managed to sneak in front after the break but thankfully Cyriel Dessers, who had misfired earlier in the game, finally managed to find the net and an equaliser.

It puts Gers on seven points which gives a real chance of progression to the knockout stages ahead of the next match away to Nice. Up next after that is Tottenham at Ibrox.

Connor Barron picked as Rangers star man ahead of Raskin

Nico Raskin is really coming on to a game and has looked back to his best in recent games. It was the same again tonight and his performance has been picked out by some as a standout.

Indeed, Rangers News handed out a 9/10 rating as he landed our player of the match.

But pundit Marvin Bartley, while impressed with the Belgian, actually picked out his midfielder partner Connor Barron as his best performer on the night.

The former Hibs midfielder praised the whole team performance as well as Philippe Clement’s tactics.

For him, Barron’s “infectious energy” made him a joy to watch and separated him from the rest.

He said on X: “Much better performance from Rangers there! Clement got the tactics spot on, only thing missing was Dessers taking one of those first half opportunities.

“Raskin was very good but for me the star man was Barron! He’s becoming a joy to watch with that infectious energy.”

Impressive performers for Rangers

Bartley’s assessment is a shrewd one as the team were impressive in Piraeus, with a number of individuals impressing within that.

Raskin was commanding in the middle of the park, putting himself about and making challenge after challenge and looks to have finally put his injury niggles behind him.

Vaclav Cerny turned in another strong display and was always keen to get on the ball, drive forward and take a man on.

And Barron was industrious with quality added to that and almost scored a worldie to win it!
