The journalist who broke the story concerning Leeds United’s interest in Rangers winger Ryan Kent has categorically denied the player has a release clause in his contract.

Alan Nixon first broke the story before going on to write a piece with the Scottish Sun about the 23-year-old being subject to £10m interest from the Premier League newboys.

Nixon would also claim that Leeds could revisit Rangers with a £14m bid for the player after the initial approach was rejected.

Speaking to a fan on Twitter who enquired to Nixon about rumours of a potential release clause in the player’s contract, Nixon simply responded “no release clause”.

This will hopefully put to bed any fears Rangers fans have that Marcelo Bielsa could activate a release clause which would force the Ibrox side to accept a bid for Kent.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard is determined to keep a hold of the ex-Liverpool winger but he has previously acknowledged a decision could be taken out of his hands when asked about a clause.

“Every player has different things in their contracts, that’s just the way it is,” he said [Glasgow Times].

“Negotiations take place between each individual and the club and it’s not my place to divulge what is in an individual’s contract.

“What I will say is that if the valuation of any player is met then as much as I would like the final say on it, it will probably be taken out of my hands.”

Rangers winger Kent joined the ranks of Ibrox initially on-loan in 18/19 before holding out for a permanent move last season.

According to reports, the deal could wind up costing the Ibrox club anywhere up to £7.5m.
