The news comes after reports in Spain claimed Rangers were battling Valladolid, German side Schalke 04 and Turkish giants Galatasaray for the Israeli striker’s signature.
Weissman had attracted interest from across Europe after netting 30 goals in 31 Austrian Bundesliga games last season, none more so than from Brazilian legend Ronaldo.
The former Selecao striker is the owner of Valladolid and is said to “love” the player [Balague].
Weissman, 24, has been capped four times by Israel and burst onto the scene in his first season in Austria, hitting 37 goals in total for Wolfsberger in all competitions.
That includes two in six Europa League matches and five in three games in the Austrian OFB Cup [Transfermarkt].
In the Austrian top-tier the powerful striker averaged a goal every 89 minutes and had previously been linked with a £4.5m move to Old Firm rivals Celtic [Scotsman].
The reported interest also comes amid the ongoing saga involving Alfredo Morelos, with the Colombian still at Rangers and it unclear what his future will be amid interest from Lille.
Rangers fans who got themselves excited about the prospect of signing Weissman may need to come to terms with the fact he is moving elsewhere as the Morelos situation is resolved.
