Scottish football journalist Bill Young is claiming that Rangers are in talks with Scottish Premiership side Dundee United over striker Lawrence Shankland should Alfredo Morelos be sold.
Taking to Twitter, the radio journalist claimed that he has had “a nod from Tayside” that the Scottish international is on Rangers’ shortlist should the Colombian move on.
Rangers have been linked to Shankland continuously ever since the forward lit up the Scottish Championship with Ayr United in the 18/19 season.
However Shankland would eventually move to Dundee United when his contract expired at the end of that campaign and links have continued with the Ibrox club.
Shankland, 25, also addressed reported interest from Ibrox last season amid claims from ex-boss Ian McCall that the striker nearly signed for the Gers in January 2019.
“He (McCall) must have known something I didn’t know,” said Shankland [Daily Record].
“I didn’t know much about that, honestly.
“They might have been watching me last season but there was nothing stick-on about it.”
Rangers striker Morelos has been linked with a mega-money move to Lille and sat out the Gers’ 2-0 weekend victory over Kilmarnock.
Reports in Colombia suggesting that the player has handed in a transfer request after Lille made an £18m bid have since been refuted in Scotland [Glasgow Times].
Rangers have reportedly rejected bids of around £16m for the striker with the Ibrox club said to be holding out for closer to £20m.
Shankland hasn’t played for Dundee United since the first game of the season and is currently recovering from an ankle injury.
