Scottish football journalist Chris Jack has suggested that ex-Rangers manager Steven Gerrard might never have left the Ibrox club if Dave King had remained as chairman.
The Herald and Times writer made the claim whilst speaking on the Blueheart 1872 podcast, the journalist known to have a good relationship with the South Africa-based businessman.
“What I would say on Dave is that he is very aware of what is going on at the club,” said Chris Jack.
“So he may not be on the board or a director anymore, but he is still aware of the squad, the manager, what’s going on behind-the-scenes and at boardroom level.
“If Dave King had still been at Rangers then Steven Gerrard would not have left the football club, that’s a fairly straightforward one.”
Bold Chris Jack claim has Rangers fans talking
It’s a bold claim from the journalist and the suggestion has Rangers fans talking on social media.
Chris Jack was talking amid major pressure on current manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who is believed to have the backing of the current Board despite a downturn in results domestically and in Europe.
The Dutchman replaced Steven Gerrard when the Scouser jumped ship last November and joined Premier League Aston Villa, a role which the Liverpool legend has since left.
Since then Rangers have been overtaken by Old Firm rivals Celtic with Dutch coach Gio struggling to match Celtic’s intensity, something in stark contrast to Gerrard’s firm grip on the title tussle.

Chris Jack believes that had Dave King not stepped down as chairman – the Ibrox shareholder being the man who convinced Gerrard to join on at Rangers – then the Liverpool legend would never have left.
But by the same token, had Gerrard never left, would Rangers have reached the Europa League Final last season?
Meanwhile, one major Rangers partner could be set to see a Premier League deal ripped up.
