The Josh Windass interview has everyone talking, but it proved that Rangers made the right move in letting go of him.
Simon Ferry and Open Goal have done it again with their latest installment. The former Celtic youth player’s most recent interview came in the form of former Rangers attacker Windass.
These interviews tend to reveal a lot of things about players. They’re as open and honest as you could hope an interview to be, with Ferry’s subjects feeling at ease whenever they’re on his show.

Windass in that sense was no different. It was entertaining, revealing, and most of all, damning on the Wigan Athletic man. For Windass, he’s confirmed to the Rangers supporters that he never had it in him to be a Rangers star.
One of the biggest complaints of the Englishman was his attitude. He came across to many as an over-hyped talent with a weak mentality to match. That’s now been proven to be true, as Rangers have dodged a real bullet in not keeping him.
The biggest takeaway was his lack of regret at “shooshing” the Rangers fans in a match with Partick Thistle. Windass had been receiving stick for what had been a poor performance. Therefore, when he scored, he tried to tell his own supporters to be quiet.
No regrets
Windass stated that he doesn’t regret it, and still backs the decision to this day. That’s despite the fact he was widely condemned for it, but Windass has never cared about that sort of thing.
His mentality was also proven to be weak. When Celtic’ Jozo Simunovic was sent off in the 3-2 defeat to Brendan Rodgers’ men last March, Windass’ reaction was “oh my god, we’re going to win the league”.

Nothing wrong with that at face value, but it came across as a boy who never expected Rangers to catch Celtic. There was too much hope and not enough expectation from Windass during his time at Rangers.
He shows a lack of empathy with the Rangers supporters, and clearly has no overwhelming care for the club who gave him his big move.
The Wigan attacker didn’t have the mentality to win on a weekly-basis, and he showed that in this interview. For any supporters who haven’t yet seen it, you can watch the hour-long segment here.
As a former Rangers player, there’s too much admiration for Celtic. Too much negativity and feeling of self-importance. Windass never had the attributes to succeed at Ibrox, and it’s now been proven.
