There’s no doubting that Rangers vs Celtic is one of the world’s most compelling derby matches.
The Old Firm is also one of the biggest and has a case for being the most passionate on the planet. Perhaps the argy-bargy between both clubs over away fan ticketing is undermining its global image at the moment, but the points aforementioned certainly still stand.
The one on December 30 is absolutely huge. Celtic are really stuttering under Brendan Rodgers and coupled with Philippe Clement’s sheer brilliance since arriving at Ibrox, the gap between top and second is closing shorter by the week.
There’s no doubt it is THE game to watch over the next couple of weeks. But ahead of Clement and his side’s short but mouthwatering trip across Glasgow, Everton and England stopper Jordan Pickford thinks Rangers vs Celtic has serious competition.
Jordan Pickford talks up Tyne-Wear clash

Just seven days later on January 6, Sunderland and Newcastle United meet for the first time since 2016 as they clash in the FA Cup.
Former Rangers boss Michael Beale has been installed as manager at the Stadium of Light and will lock horns with Eddie Howe for the bragging rights in the north east of England.
Beale would be the best man to answer the Old Firm vs Tyne-Wear derby debate – if there even is one – after both games but for now, Black Cats fanatic Pickford truly believes Sunderland vs Newcastle United is ‘right up there’ with Rangers vs Celtic.
Pickford told beIN Sports after being asked how much the occasion means to him, he replied: “Personally in the country I don’t think there is a bigger derby. I think it’s on a par with Celtic vs Rangers.
“For me it’s one of the biggest derbies, atmosphere wise. It’s a great day out. For me the atmosphere is right up there.”
Old Firm easily tops Tyne-Wear
Despite what Pickford says, there really isn’t a debate to be had here.
The Old Firm is an unrivalled spectacle and while Pickford talks specifically about the Tyne-Wear derby’s atmosphere, you’re talking a different league when referring to Rangers vs Celtic.
Ibrox is a piping hot cauldron on Old Firm day and to give them their dues, Celtic Park isn’t the worst either.
The Old Firm is known the world over and that can’t be said to the same extent for Sunderland vs Newcastle.
