John Souttar opens up on Rangers contract talk latest amid raft of changes at club

John Souttar has proven himself at Rangers time and again.

The centre-half, 28, has been solid at the back for the club this season despite a difficult campaign for the Glasgow giants.

Souttar has been described as “immense” at times having also come through injury issues and he’s a player the fans and club would surely like to tie down on a longer term contract with it set to expire in 2026.

For Souttar that remains a long way in the distance and the standout Scotland star insists he has been content to wait until things settle down around him at Ibrox.

There continues to be the ongoing takeover talk with 49ers Enterprises which has not yet been concluded and then there’s the small matter of which manager will be in charge beyond this season.

John Souttar puts Rangers contract ‘on backburner’

That’s why Souttar has put his own needs on the backburner to get on with the action on the pitch this term and everything else, he reckons, will take care of itself.

“To be honest, I’ve not spoken about that for a while,” Souttar said when asked about his deal. “There has been loads of changes at the club so that situation has gone on the back-burner.

“I’ve not spoken to anyone about it for a while.

“I’m just concentrating on my football and let others deal with what they have to deal with. Hopefully it then gets resolved.

“There is so much going on at the club just now. I’m sure that when there is some stability that’ll get sorted.”

Rangers next sporting director can land instant win with new deal

Souttar overall Rangers stats
Played: 87
Goals: 4
Assists: 2

Whoever takes over as Rangers‘ next sporting director could land an instant success story if they deal in Soapy.

He has played 33 times this season in all competitions and shown up well both domestically and in Gers’ incredible run to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Souttar has also stood out on international duty as well as he was recently applauded for keeping Greece from humiliating Scotland at Hampden.
