Rangers might just have found the answer to their CB woes. It is being reported Joe Worrall is about to sign for the club.

To sweeten the deal, Rangers have also staved off rivals Celtic for his signature.

The 6’3 defender will join on loan from Nottingham Forest, with Transfermarkt rating the player at £8m.

“He’s a fantastic player” – Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard described Worrall as a fantastic player. Gerrard’s influence will have certainly helped with the player’s decision.

Worrall has already made 49 Championship starts in his young career and captained the young England team which recently won the Toulon Tournament in France.

He is very highly rated in England and was reportedly the subject of interest from the Premier League. He looks nailed on to be a future England international and at 21, fits the mould of a young, hungry player Gerrard wants in the team.

Comfortable with the ball on the deck or in the air

With such a large frame, it’s unsurprising that the centre back is very comfortable in the air.

Ex-Nottingham Forest manager Phillippe Montanier once said Worrall was “”strong and tall, but very clever too, tactically”.

In the mould of a Gerrard defender, Worrall can also play with the ball on the deck. He’s imposing, composed and intelligent.

Add in the fact Rangers pipped Celtic to his signing and you’ve got a player fans can get really excited about.
