“Jinx” – Rangers fans want bad omen binned after shock St. Mirren defeat

As Rangers tumbled to a late defeat against St. Mirren, many believe the club’s retro kit in that moment became a bad omen for future performances.

Rangers were genuinely atrocious in a rain-soaked Paisley as they somehow threw things away in the dying embers of the match to lose 3-2 despite hauling themselves back into contention with a late Steven Davis equaliser.

For many fans, this was a throwback to the chicken-livered, cowardly Rangers of the last few seasons under Steven Gerrard who bottle it as soon as the pressure is turned up.

They have certainly done themselves no favours and heaped even more pressure onto themselves in this regard as the league campaign looks to bottleneck next year.

But all of this was done in a changed kit at St. Mirren Park as the club gave its first run out to a special Castore retro kit in the Betfred Cup quarter-final.

A stylish, stripped back design based on the Rangers kits of yore, fans rushed to snap them up and were excited to see it in use against the Buddies.

But after Steven Gerrard’s side crashed out of their seventh trophy in a row under the Gers boss, some of the club’s fans joked that the strip is now jinxed and is a bad omen for future matches:

Whilst what kit the team was playing clearly didn’t influence proceedings an awful lot perhaps the fact Rangers chose this fixture to debut it shows the arrogance the club had towards the match.

Rangers were miles off the pace as St. Mirren ran out deserved 3-2 victors to reach a Hampden semi-final thanks to an injury-time strike from Connor McCarthy.
