Not every player who is linked with Rangers is a legitimate transfer target but this doesn’t stop fans getting excited when names like Cole Palmer are mentioned in the press.
Only in January, the 21-year old playmaker was linked with a move to Ibrox, however, nothing materialised and he has since gone from strength to strength.
Rangers only wanted Cole Palmer on loan and his summer move from Manchester City to Chelsea has proven to be the right decision after a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad, as reported by the BBC.

Pep Guardiola urged Palmer to stay, claiming that the departure of Riyad Mahrez would free up space for more game time.
Instead, he chose to turn the City manager down and went south in a reported £40m plus £2m add-ons transfer to Chelsea.
With six goals and four assists in 14 appearances, it’s easy to see why the former Rangers target cost so much and why Cole Palmer has replaced James Maddison in the England squad.
Speaking after the Chelsea midfiedler’s dramatic last minute equaliser against his former club, Micah Richards, speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, was clearly unhappy about losing the talented youngster.
‘It’s a good question because I would have never sold him, just because I knew what he could do.
“The thing is with Manchester City, they produce so many good players and obviously, they buy top players too, so you can’t have everyone.
“If you can get £42m for someone that didn’t play that many games… It’s the courage I like. Can you remember a couple of weeks ago when he and [Raheem] Sterling were fighting over a penalty and he was like no, I am taking this.
“To take a penalty in the 95th minute. I am gutted.|
It’s a small crumb of comfort if Rangers were genuinely interested in signing Cole Palmer.
Similar to Amad Diallo, we should be picking up the phone to the Premier League’s biggest sides and asking to borrow their best talents.
The consideration is that it is blocking our own youngsters, however, as we have seen with Abdallah Sima, sometimes, it can be worth the gamble.
It’s just a shame that Rangers fans didn’t get to see Cole Palmer ahead of his meteoric rise to prominence.
