James Tavernier was left ‘disappointed’ for the umpteenth time as Rangers stumbled through a 2-2 draw with Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.
The Rangers captain, 33, might have enjoyed some tremendous highs at Ibrox but the marauding right-back has also overseen several title collapses in the famous blue.
This latest capitulation – which sees Rangers fall 14 points behind before the Bells in meek resistance to Celtic’s treble charge – is amongst the most painful for supporters.
And yet, when James Tavernier faced the cameras after the club’s latest nonsense at Fir Park, Rangers fans once again experienced a sense of deja vu.

”Obviously disappointed to drop the points that we did,” Tavernier told RangersTV.
”That’s obviously two games in a row now where the first 45 minutes we’ve conceded poor goals and we’re chasing the game.
”We have to start the games better. Obviously we made an impact second half with the substitutes that came on.
”But we couldn’t obviously see it over the line.
”It’s just poor goals that we’re giving away. It’s as simple as that. It’s difficult.
”We obviously create chances as well, maybe a couple first half where we’ve got to be more clinical.
”But yeah the goals that we’ve conceded are poor and obviously it’s an uphill battle after that.
”We responded really well second half but when you come in at half-time 2-0 you want to keep pushing and pushing but obviously we couldn’t get that third goal.”
Rangers ‘missed quality’ against Motherwell
James Tavernier is also, like the rest of us, at a loss as to why this Rangers team continue to give away easy goals and give themselves an uphill task in games.
The Rangers skipper is one of few players in the team who regularly show some responsibility on the park with major questions over the mentality of several in the club’s squad.
Tavernier said what he always says – that Rangers have to learn from the situation – but given the gravity of these poor results it’s a lesson which the Ibrox team have failed to heed.
The Ibrox captain has also questioned the creativity of his team, suggesting the side were too hurried and rushed when chasing the winner at Fir Park.
”We never want to drop points. To come in at half-time obviously chasing the game, we never want to do that,” said Tavernier.
”We obviously want to try and start the game really well and try and get that first goal but yeah it’s obviously disappointing that we’re conceding these type of goals.
”We have to obviously learn from it. The games before these past two, defensively we were much better as a team.
”So we’ve got to get back to that, we’ve got to defend better as a team, not give away too many chances and easy chances and obviously be clinical on the opposite side of the pitch.
”The belief obviously was there, we were obviously going to push until the final whistle.
”Maybe we could’ve worked it maybe a little bit better, maybe we went too early with some crosses, we could’ve maybe worked it around the box and maybe asked different questions.
”But the effort was there to keep asking the question but obviously we just missed the final quality to get that third.”
