James Tavernier has seen his fair share of Rangers managers come and go but the skipper believes that Philippe Clement is the right man to lead us to success.

One final, one trophy, isn’t a bad way to start for the Gers boss as he looks to get the most out of a squad that has failed to deliver consistently in recent years.

When asked what the big Belgian has brought to the club, James Tavernier has been effusive in his praise of the Rangers manager, drawing comparisons with some of the continent’s finest.

James Tavernier reckons Rangers have the right man in charge

Almost every Rangers player has spoken about the clarity of the message that Clement delivers at training and for matches.

And it has had an immediate effect.

It hasn’t just been his football intelligence and how to get his philosophy across that has been a success, James Tavernier, via The Rangers Review, has explained that there is another side to the firey manager:

“You look at all the great managers, like (Carlos) Ancelotti or (Jose) Mourinho, and they have really good man-management.

“I listen to some of Jermaine’s [Defoe] podcasts with old-school managers and they have that bond with their teams.

“Players will run through brick walls for you. That’s what the gaffer has done. He has got to know all his players, understood everyone and everyone is tuned in.

“I feel the more time we have, especially this week, we’re only going to get better with the ideas he puts across.”

Ancelotti and Mourinho are serial winners, not just because they know how to set teams up but because of how players respond to their instructions.

It’s been encouraging to see how quickly, with the same squad and a raft of injuries, just how much we have improved.

What this also means is that the board has to back Clement to bring in better players and ones more suited to his style of play to really kick on.

Mentality has been a big question in recent years.

Does the core of the squad have what it takes to consistently win trophies?

Can they beat Celtic when it matters?

These are the questions that James Tavernier now needs to answer as Rangers captain but it looks as though he has a helping hand with Philippe Clement in charge.
