Rangers are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Michael Beale, and one of the reported candidates for the Ibrox managerial role is Ryan Lowe.

Ryan Lowe is in charge of Preston North End in the Championship in England at the moment, and it seems that Rangers have been impressed by Steven Gerrard’s former teammate in the Liverpool academy.

Rangers linked with Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe

According to The Daily Record, Rangers chief executive James Bisgrove has already made “tentative enquiries over the financial outlay required to lure” Lowe to Ibrox.

The report has claimed that Rangers see Lowe, 45, “as the perfect fit” for the managerial role.

The Daily Record has noted that Lowe is a close friend of former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, having been with the ex-England international midfielder in the Liverpool academy.

The report has added that Rangers have been impressed by how Lowe guided Plymouth Argyle to promotion from League Two and his impact at Preston so far.

Preston are third in the Championship table at the moment with 20 points from nine matches, just two points behind second-placed Ipswich Town and four points behind leaders Leicester City.

My View: Rangers could be able to get Ryan Lowe

In my opinion, if Rangers try hard, then they could be able to bring Ryan Lowe from Preston North End.

Rangers are one of the biggest clubs in the world and are playing in the UEFA Europa League this season.

And, yes, Celtic are doing well in the Scottish Premiership at the moment, but it is only the beginning of October and Rangers could still catch them.

So, I believe that Lowe would find the prospect of managing Rangers very appealing.

You could argue that the 45-year-old would find the prospect of guiding Preston to the Premier League more challenging and appealing.

But, there is no guarantee that Preston will finish in the Championship top two this season or even in the playoffs.

The second tier of English football is a notoriously tough and unpredictable league.

Moreover, Lowe does have a history of going for bigger and better things.

In December 2021, Lowe left Plymouth Argyle and took charge of Preston.

BBC Sport reported at the time that “Preston activated a release clause in Lowe’s Argyle contract, with the former Shrewsbury, Bury and Tranmere striker expressing a desire to leave Home Park”.
