On Friday, the Scottish Sun reported that Rangers were close to a pre-contract agreement with Jake Hastie.
It was claimed the 19-year-old was on the verge of signing a four-year contract.
However, comments from the player and his manager, Stephen Robinson, quoted in the Evening Times, suggest otherwise.

Speaking after they won the SPL Player and Manager of the Month awards respectively, they insisted that no move away was even close to being agreed.
“It’s just all speculation and I’m focusing on the Hamilton game”, said Hastie, as quoted by the Evening Times.
“I’ve had no talks at all.”
“I’m just enjoying myself and enjoying my football, and the main thing is to concentrate on that just now.”
Meanwhile, his manager is hopeful that he will choose to sign a new deal and stay at Fir Park.

“There is an opportunity to play first team football and play in an environment where he is loved and very well-liked by the crowd and everybody here”, reasoned Robinson.
All this is very much at odds with some of the information we heard previously.
Hastie was being talked about as a Rangers player. Yet, this suggests he hasn’t even met with the club to discuss a move.
Therefore, the Gers could still miss out on this target.
It seems other teams are still circling, while an improved deal at Motherwell is also an option.
There’s a long way to go before this one gets over the line.
