Rangers are reportedly increasingly “confident” in signing Burnley talent Jack McEvilly despite Premier League interest from the likes of Newcastle Utd.

Football Insider are claiming that Rangers believe they hold the “advantage” over the likes of Crystal Palace, Man Utd, Everton and Brighton when it comes to the player.

This also comes amid reported Jack McEvilly interest from the likes of Old Firm rivals Celtic, who are also in a position to take advantage of cross-border compensation rules to sign the player.

The report claims that Rangers would have to pay a maximum of £300k to sign the Burnley youngster, who at 16-years-old is looking to sign his first professional contract.

Rangers “confident” over Jack McEvilly

Rangers have proven a solid breeding ground for young English-based talent in recent years with the likes of Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo being sold on for big profits and English youth international Zak Lovelace joining.

Jack McEvilly is a left-side centre-back and may well look at the success of Calvin Bassey – who moved to Ajax for a reported £23m in the summer – as a positive example of what can happen at Ibrox.

Rangers offer youngsters the chance to compete for trophies and learn their trade in a competitive environment which demands a winning mentality.

The offer of Champions League football can also be a massive lure and Rangers will be looking to their ambitions in Europe in the future as they bolster their youth squad.

Jack McEvilly has already featured for the Burnley U21s and is regarded as a bright talent in the English game despite his tender years.

Rangers will hope the success of previous young players north of the border acts as inspiration with the defender as they look to beat the likes of Newcastle Utd and Celtic to McEvilly’s signature.
