Jack Butland had been a near ever present for Rangers prior to picking up the injury which kept him out a crucial moment of the season.

Whilst Liam Kelly was a capable deputy when called upon, the loss of Jack Butland was about much more than just losing the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Rangers lost a leader in the 31-year-old at the most inopportune of moments with James Tavernier, Leon Balogun and John Souttar already sidelined.

Jack Butland ‘looking forward’ after injury

Now back between the sticks for Rangers, Jack Butland had a mixed game at Old Trafford with a stand-out gaffe giving Manchester United the lead in the Europa League clash.

But the goalkeeper turned it on again against Dundee United to help his team to a vital three points on the road in the Scottish Premiership.

With the ‘internal bleeding’ issue now behind the Rangers goalkeeper, Butland is just focused on getting back to what he does best; playing football.

”It’s never nice to be away from the team, just on a personal note, playing or not,” Butland said ahead of the Europa League visit of USG.

”It’s just never nice to be injured, so I’m glad that’s behind me now and looking forward.

”I think it’s a common injury that I suppose developed into probably the worst-case scenario, so it was a really sudden and unexpected thing, one that thankfully we got on top of very quick.

“The doctors here and the physios here, as well as the guys at the QE, were brilliant on that New Year and made probably a faster and most expected sort of recovery.

“That’s credit to all the guys that have helped out and me doing everything I possibly could to get back as quick as I could.”

Rangers goalkeeper on shutting down social media rumours

Jack Butland insists that despite the prognosis of an ‘internal bleed’ in his leg, the reality of the injury is actually much less dramatic.

Stemming from a dead leg which turned into the ‘worst-case scenario’ the Rangers goalkeeper took to social media on the eve of the 3-0 win over Celtic to quell swirling rumours.

Responding to the rumours which spread like wildfire on social media in the aftermath of the injury, Butland suggests he had to choice but to go public to put a pin in the chatter.

“t was a recurrence of an injury from five days before, so anyone familiar with a dead leg,” explains Butland.

”It sounds quite innocuous at times, but essentially it’s a bleed, an internal bleed, not the life-threatening one that seems to leak around on social media that forced us to have to come out and cover that.

”But I’d hit it again, so it ended up bleeding and not stopping, so it ended up being one that essentially grew and grew and grew and the pressure on my leg grew and my quad at the time was a few jean sizes bigger than what it should have been.

“So it can get scary at that point, that’s why hospital was involved, because if it doesn’t stop bleeding, then it goes down the operation route and it’s messy and all the rest of it.

”But thankfully it was one that’s then quite simple but stubborn to get through.

”But like I said, testament to all the guys here and the medical staff and obviously myself and whatever I get on top of it and putting in the work to get it gone.”
