Rangers have been handed a Europa League boost after Jaap Stam – the boss of group rivals Feyenoord – stepped down as the club’s manager.

The legendary Dutch stopper leaves the role after only seven months following a 4-0 humbling at the hands of Amsterdam rivals Ajax.

They were 4-0 down after 42 minutes in the match with the result leaving them languishing 12th in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Rangers are set to travel to the infamous de Kuip on the 28th of November with that match potentially having a huge say on the outcome of the group.

Feyenoord currently sit bottom of the group with one win in three matches, having lost their most recent group match against Young Boys 2-0.

However, it’s still all to play for with Feyenoord offered the chance to exact revenge on the group leaders next week and match their six points.

Rangers and Porto are locked on four with a tantalising match set up at Ibrox in little over a week.

Rangers defeated Feyenoord 1-0 in the first game of the groups, with a spirited display coming after the Ibrox side lost former club captain Fernando Ricksen to Motor Neurone Disease.

Jaap Stam and the Feyenoord team came to visit the shrine created for Ricksen by Rangers fans to lay flowers and pay their respects.

The attention will now shift onto who Feyenoord plan to get in to replace the former Manchester United centre half.
