One of the recent criticisms of Rangers recruitment in recent seasons has been an obsession with England’s lower leagues.
Since Philippe Clement arrived at Ibrox as manager and Nils Koppen as the recruitment director, things have changed with various markets now being tapped up for new talent.
This doesn’t mean that cross border raids have been ruled out though with Rangers being linked with a move for Kwame Poku of Peterborough United.

Kwame Poku already the subject of bids as Rangers circle
League One might not be the pinnacle of football, however, with 10 goals and seven assists for the Posh, the Ghana international clearly has potential.
Wingers with these numbers are always in demand, although Rangers are at an advantage in that being outside England makes the compensation fee considerably cheaper than the millions that a team from the Premier League or Championship would have to pay.
Think the £350,000 paid for Joe Aribo as a good example.
The 23-year old is also available to discuss terms on a pre-contract agreement in January.
After previous transfer pursuits for Ivan Toney, Siriki Dembele and Jonson Clarke-Harris, it could be fourth time lucky with Poku in terms of Peterborough players.
Peterborough owner makes Poku transfer bid claim
Peterborough are known to be very vocal about their transfer business, especially when it comes to selling players, and the future of Poku has been no different.
Darragh MacAnthony, the League One outfit’s owner, revealed on his Hard Truth Podcast:
“There’d been four other clubs previous to them and then Luton came in and to be fair, Kwame was as good as gold, didn’t cause any issues whatsoever.
“We just said to Gary Sweet, their CEO, we’re not selling Kwame. It was an okay bid, it was in the millions with add-ons and whatever else, but Kwame’s under 24.
“The same bid they made we’ll get at the tribunal next year.”
MacAnthony counting his chickens that Poku doesn’t move abroad or to Scotland.
Peterborough are quite happy to dig their heels in and let a player run their contract down if losing them weakens their chances of promotion.
For a club like Rangers, shopping on a budget, Poku should be a key target. As seen by Fashion Sakala, these players might not sell for £10m or £20m further down the line, but every £4m and £5m adds up, when the initial fee has been peanuts.
