Celtic romped to another treble, and it’s a stark reminder of the distance Rangers still have to go to catch up.
Our rivals have a squad of internationals and a depth no-one in Scottish football can match. But Rangers do have a semblance of hope going into next season.
Not only are we in the best place on and off the pitch than we have been since 2012, but odds on Celtic’s next manager’s full-time appointment might just have shortened.
For all the ignominy the Celtic boss suffered for Rangers’ triumph at Ibrox, he has steered them to the final two trophies of a treble. Their third in a row. I won’t mention it again.
But next season things look significantly different for our Parkhead rivals. There is a level of doubt there. Rangers are starting on firmer footing than ever.
Much of it depends on how Gerrard’s side start next season. But should our rivals play it safe and appoint Lennon, we’ll be up against a significantly weaker side than we were last year.
Is Lennon getting the Celtic job the best thing that can happen after their treble triumph? That remains to be seen. It’s certainly not the first time I’ve suggested so.
But what I do know is that it’s certainly better than them getting another Brendan Rodgers.
